Henry Meier is a senior
lawyer, providing counseling for Information Technology, intellectual property,
and corporate transactions. He has seasoned transactional experience in
negotiating and drafting technology contracts and in developing contract administration
best practices.
Henry practices intellectual
property (copyrights, trademarks, and trade secrets), Internet and
telecommunications, and information technology law. He advises computer
software and IT businesses in a variety of critical areas. His legal and
management consulting practice focuses on providing direct services for
clients, negotiating, drafting, reviewing, and managing contracts for
equipment, software, Internet, and other related services.
Prior to joining CorpLaw,
Henry served as in-house counsel for two area software producers, ICG Commerce,
Inc., an Internet-based E-commerce business, and Bell + Howell Postal Systems,
Inc., a major government contractor. He was responsible for negotiating and
drafting complex IT contracts and generated savings for ICG in excess of $12 million annually.
Previously, Henry was the Director of Legal Services for Sequest
Health Care System, Inc. There, he initiated the marketing and licensing
effort to acquire IP rights of their clinical record software product.
Before Sequest, Henry was an
Associate at the Chicago firm of Schyuler, Roche and Zwirner for 7 years. He
worked with the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals analyzing state
health care, mental health, and hospital laws and regulations for antitrust and
patient care implications. Henry began his legal career at the Office of the
Attorney General, Consumer Fraud Division in Chicago, where he investigated and
mediated consumer fraud complaints.
Henry is a 1971 graduate of
Northern Illinois University, where he received a B.S. degree in Finance. In
1977, he was awarded a J.D. from The John Marshall Law School. He returned to
The John Marshall Law School in 1999 where he is enrolled in the LL.M. program
of the Information Technology and Privacy Law Center. Henry is admitted to
practice before the Illinois Bar and U.S. Federal Court, Northern
Illinois District.
Henry is an active member of
the American and Illinois State Bar Associations, and has served as Chair of
the Chicago Bar Association's Computer Law Committee. Henry is a frequent
lecturer in the Computer Law industry. He is also a member of the American
Health Lawyers Association, Health Information and Management Systems Society,
Chicago Software Association, CEO Round Table, and Chicago-land Electronic
Commerce initiative.
